Maximising ACFI claims is part of our core business and Wellness & Lifestyles has developed a unique and dynamic documentation system that is sustainable, will facilitate maximum funding and will stand up to audits.
What is the ACFI?
The Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) is a national assessment used for all people living in residential care facilities in Australia. It became effective in March 2008. It assesses core care needs as a basis for allocating funding.
The ACFI consists of 12 questions about assessed care needs, each having four ratings (A, B, C or D) and two diagnostic sections. While the ACFI questions provide basic information that is related to fundamental care needs, it is not a comprehensive assessment package. It is a diagnostic based instrument based on the residents’ assessed needs in specific domains (NOTE: it begins and ends with diagnostic profile). It is an instrument that is very prescriptive in the information it requires to support the claims and congruency across all three domains in the claims being made is paramount.
Wellness & Lifestyles’ therapists have extensive ACFI training and are provided with the W&L documentation system templates to use at each site. The W&L management team is capable of performing ACFI audits on all documentation provided by our team of therapists.
There are three ACFI domains:
Activities of Daily Living (Consisting of the ACFI questions: Nutrition, Mobility, Personal Hygiene, Toileting and Continence.)
Cognition & Behaviour (Consisting of the ACFI questions: Cognitive Skills, Wandering, Verbal Behaviour, Physical Behaviour and Depression).
Complex Health Care (Consisting of the ACFI questions: Medication and Complex Health Care Procedure).
The amount of funding that a facility can receive for each resident depends on the ratings (A, B, C, or D) for each of the ACFI questions (1-12).
