Do you have Type II Diabetes? Would you be interested in learning how to delay/prevent long term complications? Are you looking for practical ways to improve your diet and lifestyles? Do you need advice on how to deal with the day to day issues?
We are delighted to offer a team of highly experienced health professionals who have developed an 8-week program to help you, help yourself!
Wellness & Lifestyles’ Diabetes Educators are recognised providers of diabetes self management education services. They hold a health professional qualification in nursing, medicine, dietetics or pharmacy and have completed post graduate training in diabetes education and care. They also undertake continuing education in diabetes care.
The program involves a one-on-one session with our dietitian to establish goals, collect background history and assess current knowledge. From this initial assessment you will be teamed up with a group of 8 to 12 people with similar circumstances to yourself. Our health professionals will then lead the groups on one session/week (of 60 to 90 minutes duration).
Topics covered include:
Accredited Practicing Dietitian: Practical nutrition advice on menu planning, suitable snacks, weight reduction, portion sizes, label reading, cholesterol lowering, treating hypoglycaemia and a supermarket tour.
Credentialed Diabetes Educator: Information on understanding and managing diabetes, risk factors, stress management, food nutrients and restrictions, food labelling, alcohol & foot care.
Accredited Exercise Physiologist: Advice on why exercise, how much exercise, awareness of safety issues, barriers/strategies, exercise variety and practical programming workshops to design your own exercise programs.
Medicare rebates apply.
