Need a physiotherapy aide? So do a lot of other people!
We are commonly hearing at sites that the carers:
- Can’t find the time
- They’re doing it but not documenting their interventions, or
- They just aren’t doing it as they don’t feel confident in providing these interventions!
Question 12 part 3 of the ACFI Complex Health Care Supplement is ‘Pain management involving therapeutic massage or application of heat packs AND frequency at least weekly AND at least 20 minutes of staff time in total’, with documentation requirements being the directive, pain assessment, and a treatment record
The 1-category cut point achieved from this question is often enough to make the difference between a:
- Nil ($0/day) and a Low ($13.40/day) – a difference of $13.40/day, or $93.80/week, or $4,891/year
- Low ($13.40/day) and a Medium ($38.17/day) – a difference of $24.77/day, or $173.39/week, or $9,041.05/year
- Medium ($38.17/day) and a High ($55.12/day) – a difference of $16.98/day, or $118.86/week, or $6,197.70/year
Wellness & Lifestyles Australia can provide a Physiotherapy Assistant who we train in the ACFI and Complex Health Care procedures and documentation standards so that way you can be assured that you will get AND KEEP this increased funding. We’ve worked out that just by one of our W&L Physiotherapy Assistants assisting in increasing and maintaining only two residents with this change, it will actually pay for a whole day of a W&L Physiotherapy Assistant for the whole year!
In an 8 hour day a W&L Physiotherapy Assistant potentially has the capacity to treat up to 24 residents under Question 12 part 3 of the ACFI; this could mean more than an increase of $100,000 per year of income that you’re guaranteed to keep! Not only this, but the Physiotherapy Assistant can also be used to assist the Physiotherapist with their mobility, dexterity and rehabilitation treatments, leading to significantly improved resident outcomes (and freeing up the Physiotherapist for more 4a or 4b treatments).
We understand maximising your ACFI is one challenge, but meeting validation can be another. We not only want to help you maximise your funding but we also want you to keep it!
The Australian Physiotherapy Association defines a physiotherapy assistant as a health care worker who works under the supervision of a registered physiotherapist and holds a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Physiotherapy) or equivalent. These workers have a range of skills which allow a physiotherapist to confidently delegate a higher level of tasks than other support workers.
Wellness & Lifestyles has a number of physiotherapy aides who are trained fitness instructors or exercise therapists, who work closely with our team of physiotherapists. They can work closely with the W&L physiotherapists or the site’s allied health team to perform the exercise programs and classes prescribed to individual clients or groups. Our physiotherapy aides are available to service aged care facilities, day therapy centres, community health services and Disability Services. And of course, they’re mobile, so they come to you or wherever you need them!
