Therapy Managers

W&L has a number of Managers within various allied health professions.  These managers are responsible for the management and supervision of therapists who practice their profession.  They also conduct quality management visits with clients that their therapists service to ensure they are receiving a service second to none!

Mike Dowling, W&L South Australian State Manager

Mike Dowling

Mike joined the W&L team as a Physiotherapist in 2009. Since then he has participated in a variety of opportunities offered by W&L including work in residential aged care, private clientele, locum roles, site start up¸ manual handling training and quality management. He has also worked as a Physiotherapy team leader, assisting in the mentoring of new and existing therapists.

In his role as the SA State Manager, Mike helps to maintain the quality of W&L services for existing clients whilst assisting in the provision of new therapy services within South Australia.  He is also involved in the induction of new therapists and supervision of therapy managers, setting specific goals for each department to improve operational activities within the company.

Kirsty has worked for Wellness & Lifestyles Australia since 2005, and has been involved in all facets of its physiotherapy service provision (aged care facilities, day therapy centres, community therapy services and private clients).  This includes an extensive range of areas under the physiotherapy umbrella:

  • Orthopaedic
  • Outpatients
  • Falls prevention
  • Manual handling
  • Chest physiotherapy
  • Rehabilitation
  • Community and Government service linking within the community and aged care setting

Other responsibilities as Therapy Manager include management functions (quality management, site initialisation) and internal staff training (head of graduate training program, mentoring programs). Reporting to the Therapy Services Manager, Kirsty has an ever expanding role in therapist development and ACFI training.  Before joining W&L, Kirsty enjoyed working as a Women’s Health physiotherapist (ante- and post- natal care) and also has a BSc in Marine Biology.

Simon Cavanagh, W&L Podiatry Manager

Simon joined W&L in July 2007 as a therapist working 3 days per week. After 2 months, he began working full time and became Podiatry Manager in Jan 2008.  As Podiatry Manager, Simon supports new therapists who begin working for W&L over the first few months but also offers ongoing support to therapists no matter how long they have worked with W&L. This includes telephone support, toe support for individual problems/queries and on going training/continuing education.  Simon is also involved in Quality Management visits to sites receiving podiatry services from W&L where he provides feedback to therapists and to the facilities after his visits.

Simon also works as a practitioner as well, where he provides podiatry services to aged care facilities, home visits to regular and one off clients and also works within the public sector to cover sickness/holidays.

Simon reports directly to Michael Peachey, Therapy Services Manager and also to Nick Heywood-Smith, Director of W&L.  He also liaises regularly with other W&L therapy managers, particularly our other Podiatry Manager.

James O’Shannassy, W&L Podiatry Manager

James joined the podiatry team in March 2008, initially filling a 3 month locum position at Domiciliary Care SA. Once completed, he continued working for W&L on a 5 day a week basis servicing multiple sites across South Australia. James became a Podiatry Manager in September 2009. In this role he is the initial point of contact for clinical support of other podiatrists in the team.  As a manager, James establishes services at new sites to ensure correct implementation of systems before handing over to another therapist. He is also involved in quality management and ongoing evaluation of services to maintain the highest standards of practice. James reports directly to Michael Peachey, Therapy Services Manager and also to Nick Heywood-Smith, Director of W&L.

Rosie joined the Podiatry team at Wellness & Lifestyles (W&L) in March 2009, initially providing Podiatry services one day a week in conjunction with working as a private practitioner in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide. Due to increased demand Rosie continued working for W&L on a full-time basis servicing multiple sites across South Australia which then enabled her to undertake the role of Podiatry Manager in July 2010. As a Podiatry Manager, Rosie establishes services at new sites to ensure correct implementation of systems before handing over to another therapist. In this role she is the initial point of contact for clinical support and mentoring of other podiatrists in the team. She is also involved in quality management and ongoing evaluation of services to maintain the highest standards of practice. Rosie reports directly to Michael Peachey, Therapy Services Manager and also to Nick Heywood-Smith, Director of W&L. She also liaises regularly with other W&L therapy managers, particularly our other Podiatry Managers.

Michael Dobie, W&L Dietetics Manager

Michael graduated from Newcastle University in 1997. Since this time he has developed an extensive clinical background having worked in numerous teaching hospitals, diabetes centres, Oncology centres and dialysis units both here in Australia and in the UK.

Michael now has a lead roll in developing nutritional management policies for aged care facilities, advising on accreditation requirements for standard 2.10.  A key component to Michael’s role is to develop and conduct staff education packages.  He also regularly assists with the development and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives for aged care facilities.

In addition to aged care Michael is also assisting hospitals, day rehabilitation centres and community health centres with ongoing nutritional services, as well as individual dietary education for Transitional Care Plan clients, group education programmes for weight loss and  Type 2 Diabetes Management/Diabetes Prevention initiatives.
